PLEIN THEATER is a unique theater in Amsterdam East with a current and diverse program for children, young people and adults.
Our programming consists of small-scale and intimate performances with modern dance, youth theatre, contemporary chamber music and experimental theatre. On the one hand we choose to show top theater groups and on the other we offer space to young, talented makers to gain experience and experiment. In our view, the maker has a central role as a driver of social change.
Our production house also makes theater projects that tie in with historical and social themes of the world around us.
Mission
Do you know what makes a neighborhood a close, cozy and open community? Through the square where everyone meets each other spontaneously and special. It is the heart of a neighbourhood, a familiar place where there is room for activities, discussions and entrepreneurship. Each square changes over time but is timeless at the same time. This is how we see the SQUARE THEATER. A stage of Amsterdam East with a program for world citizens at world level.
PLEIN THEATER is committed to all cultures and generations that our Dutch society has to offer. We take great care in selecting a diverse, local and international program that offers something for everyone, from entertainment to connection. Here, courageous makers can show us where things are going wrong in society and where change is needed.
